Seeds to Vegetables – Week 7: A Day of Harvest and Happiness
On Saturday, the children gathered for the 7th session of the Seeds to Vegetables program. It was a joyful and exciting day, as the children finally got to see the results of the care and effort they had put in over the past few weeks. The session was full of learning, smiles, and hands-on activities, making it a truly memorable experience.

The main activity of the day was harvesting radish. The radishes had been growing for almost six weeks, and the children were eager to see how they had turned out. They learned that vegetables do not all grow at the same speed. Only a few radishes were fully ready to be harvested, while the rest needed more time in the soil.

With great care and excitement, the children harvested only the ready radishes and left the others untouched. This helped them understand an important lesson—patience is an essential part of farming. They were happy to know that during the next session, they would return to harvest the remaining radishes.

After the harvest, the children moved on to another important farm activity—tomato staking. As tomato plants grow taller and begin to bear flowers and fruits, their stems can bend or fall if they are not supported properly. The children learned why staking is needed and how it helps plants grow strong and healthy.

Using sticks and thread, they gently supported the tomato plants, making sure the stems stayed upright. This activity helped the children understand how farmers care for plants at different stages of growth and how small actions can make a big difference.

Once the farm work was completed, the session continued with a nature walk to our nearby farm. The children enjoyed walking through the farm, observing plants, soil, insects, and the natural surroundings. It was a calm and refreshing experience that helped them connect more deeply with nature.
One of the happiest moments of the day came when the children saw creeper plants growing beautifully in the old farm. These plants had been planted earlier by a previous Seeds to Greens batch, starting their journey in small cups. Now, they had grown into strong, healthy plants spreading across the farm.
Overall, the 7th session of the Seeds to Vegetables program was a perfect blend of learning and fun. The children harvested vegetables, supported growing plants, explored the farm, and saw the magic of growth unfold before their eyes.
